William Henry Hodges

William Henry Hodges (1834-1915)

William Henry Hodges was born In Philadelphia on 10/1/1834. On 7/8/1879 he was issued a patent for the “Hodges Handy Fryer”, a deep fat French fryer with wire basket. In 1880 he founded his business “William Hodges and Co” and began manufacture of this product and other kitchen specialties. His original store was 9-11 S 2nd Street in Philadelphia. The business grew to include a store at 109 Arch Street, and two factories called the Wireworks in Fisher and Camden NJ. He would take the ferry across the river to visit his factories. William Henry Hodges died 10/9/1915. In 1951 the business was sold to Falcon Industries which created surgical instruments.
