Dr. King Day of Service with University of the Sciences
Date: Monday, January 20, 2014, 10 AM start (weather permitting) until 2 PM.
Location: Mount Moriah Cemetery Yeadon side entrance (Yellow Gate) off Cobbs Creek Parkway, between Springfield Avenue and 65th Street. If approaching from northbound Cobbs Creek Parkway, do not make a left turn into entrance, continue on to Springfield Avenue and bear right, then u-turn around traffic island, and make left back on to southbound Cobbs Creek Parkway. Turn right at Yellow Gate entrance. If approaching from southbound Cobbs Creek Parkway, pass Springfield Avenue to S-turn and make right turn into entrance (Yellow Gate).
Parking: As an alternative to entering and leaving Cobbs Creek Parkway, volunteers can also enter Mount Moriah Cemetery at 6201 Kingsessing Avenue main entrance, make left just inside cemetery entrance and then first right onto Central Avenue. Take that road towards Section 200 (Civil War Soldiers Plot) and park along the internal road up to the bridge over Cobbs Creek. After parking, walk over bridge and cross Cobbs Creek Parkway on foot. Watch out for traffic.
Parking will also be available inside and outside the Yellow Gate entrance on the Yeadon side of Cobbs Creek Parkway. Watch out for traffic.
Tools: Tools and gloves will be provided to volunteers. Light refreshments will be available.
We will be clearing vegetation from several large historic plots along an internal roadway. Student volunteers from the University of the Sciences will be assisting us as part of their community service activities. At this time of the year, the vegetation is a lot easier to clear away.
